What is a Precinct?
A precinct is a district of a county, city or town as defined for voting purposes. A precinct defines who votes at your polling place. They are based on population numbers and geography. There are currently 39 Precincts in Alamance County. Precincts are also the basic building blocks of our party. We try to organize each county precinct in order to encourage neighbors to get involved in the election process, including voter registration, voter education, candidate meets & greets, campaign fundraising, issue awareness and community feedback. It’s all about promoting good government for all, and positively influencing the electoral process, rather than being a passive citizen who permits others to make important decisions for them.

Alamance County Democratic Party Sustaining Fund
The Sustaining Fund truly lives up to its name because it is the money that keeps our NC party functioning. A brief list of some of the services provided to county parties by these funds are:
• Provide the Votebuilder organizing application to county parties
• Maintenance and updating of NC Democratic Party’s website
• Organize and conduct training for party officers, activists & volunteers
• Development of literature on Democratic issues and messages
• Provide Mobilize event sign up application for county parties
This program gives the party the ability to build a grassroots organization, disseminate information, recruit and train candidates, employ staff and volunteers, maintain a voter file, support and advise Democratic elected officials and party officers at all levels.

Getting involved in your precinct is the most effective way to promote good government, identify future leaders, and help Democratic candidates succeed. Each precinct elects a chair, vice chair, secretary, and treasurer every two years. These are unpaid, volunteer positions. We encourage you to come to your periodic precinct and monthly party meetings, elect officers or run for a position yourself, as well as to propose and vote on resolutions to our bylaws. This is your chance to meet new people and to be part of the positive change you want to see in our county, state, and nation.
Our Precincts are where our power is.
Successful politics requires grassroots organization, that’s where precincts come in because they are the most local, most basic unit in American politics. Virtually everything in politics is built around precincts. That means that when it comes to elections or organizing around a local issue, precinct organization has a huge effect on the outcome.
So, how do you get involved in your precinct?
Volunteer! Someone needs to be in charge. For precincts, that means “precinct chair” and officers. A precinct chair is someone who serves as a point of contact for the people in their local neighborhood and represents them within ACDP and NCDP.
