37 Days Until Election Day

Mobile & Print List of 2020 Democratic Candidates HERE

From Democracy NC:

Do you want to combat disinformation online?

We all know that voting in 2020 comes with unique challenges, with one of the most consequential elections in our history happening amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, an economic crisis, and incidences of racial injustice and violence happening across the country.

But what happens when everyone from foreign agents to our own political leaders make it even harder to vote by spreading bad election information?

So much is at stake. As someone who cares about fair elections, it’s time to prepare yourself to effectively address the rampant mis- and disinformation circulating online and ensure every eligible voter in your networks can participate in our elections safely and securely.

Join our Truth Team — RSVP NOW for a virtual training on Monday, Sept. 28, at 6 p.m.

Hosted by Democracy North Carolina and North Carolina Voters for Clean Elections, this informative 60-minute event and Q&A will provide tips to:

  • share correct voting information with your social networks,
  • flag and report voting misinformation and disinformation,
  • drive voters who need help to our nonpartisan voter hotline: 888-OUR-VOTE

Together we can push back against those who would either innocently or purposefully mislead our neighbors this election year and help balance the scales in favor of North Carolina voters.

Join us on Sept. 28 to find out how.

Hope to “see” soon,

Caroline Fry
Voter Protection Project Manager

4. Alamance County needs election workers for the 2020 Elections!

Wondering what you can do to help ensure local elections meet the challenges of this health crisis?

Check this link to the Alamance County Election Official Application. We especially need elections workers during the 17-day early voting period. We have a new early voting location at the Elmira Community Center in Burlington and we have newly expanded weekend voting, including Sunday voting. This means we need more elections workers than in the past. And the COVID virus has meant that many of our predominantly older elections workers who are more vulnerable have chosen not to return to work this year’s election. You can also fill out the NC State Board of Elections Democracy Heroes form to be contacted by BOE staff: https://www.ncsbe.gov/get-involved

99 Reasons to Flip NC

37. TO PROTECT REPRODUCTIVE CHOICE

Since taking control of the NCGA in 2010, the GOP has passed a long list of restrictions on reproductive choice, including severe limits on insurance coverage for abortion (#86), mandatory long waiting periods, and restrictions on medication-based abortion (#59). These new laws, along with the fact that 90% of NC counties do not have any facilities that provide abortions, severely limit reproductive choice for many North Carolinians, especially those with limited ability to travel. In 2019, Republicans continued their obstruction of reproductive rights by passing a “born-alive” abortion bill. As Gov. Cooper wrote in his veto, because existing law already protects newborn babies, this bill was an unnecessary interference between doctors and their patients.
