“If the Democrats have any hope to regain control they’re going to have to pull House District 63 … It is to the North Carolina General Assembly what North Carolina is to the presidential election…”
NC House District 63
Improve Family Health and Wellness
All North Carolinians deserve access to quality care they can afford, especially those with mental illness and substance use disorders. North Carolina is one of only thirteen states that has not expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act. Ricky will push to expand Medicaid, meaning over 10,000 new people would be covered by insurance in Alamance County.
Fight for Public Education
Ricky believes in the right to a quality public education for every child. He will fight for greater investment in our teachers and students, not play politics with future generations. These investments include increasing access to early childhood education, raising teacher pay, investing in supplemental staff to support the needs of our students, and creating incentives to recruit and retain diverse educators to work with our increasingly diverse student population.
Invest in Our Future Workforce
North Carolina must build an inclusive economy that works for everyone. This vision begins with investing in public higher education so that it is affordable for working families.Ricky is committed to making it cheaper for students to attend college and create innovative partnerships with our private sector to prepare our workers for the jobs of today and tomorrow.
Protect Our Environment
Protecting our clean air and water for the health and safety of North Carolinians should be our top priority, not the bottom line of corporations benefiting from our natural resources. Ricky will reverse the harmful era of Republican deregulation and make sure our state agencies have the resources they need to keep polluters accountable. Lastly, Ricky will drive NC forward as a national leader in renewable energies to mitigate the impact of climate change.
Restore Our Democracy
We must end gerrymandering and voter suppression in North Carolina. Ricky is committed to making it easier, not harder, for people to vote through automatic voter registration. He is also committed to ending gerrymandering for good by implementing nonpartisan, independent redistricting to ensure voters are choosing their elected officials, not the other way around.
Ask Ricky Questions on Rep’d
From Ricky: I like to hear what you’re thinking about and what’s important to you. We’ve just launched our Rep’d website! You can ask questions and I will answer them virtually with a video response. In the absence of traditional campaign rallies, town halls, and door-knocking, we’re joining Rep’d as one of their pioneer candidates to give you all a virtual space to ask questions and hear my response. I’m excited to start answering the questions that are important to you!

You can read/listen to the story here.
A very concerning fact was lifted up in the article as well. Despite my race receiving statewide and national attention, due to our ongoing pandemic, local buzz is just not what it has been in years past.
That’s why I need your help. We’ve decided to push up our communications calendar four weeks earlier than original scheduled to make sure our mailers and digital ads will land in people’s mailboxes and on their computers as people begin to receive their absentee ballots. But we don’t have the budget to cover all of September advertising quite yet. Can you chip in today to help us raise $15,000 before the end of August?
I hope you all are feeling as hopeful and energized this week after an incredible Democratic National Convention. I was reminded what hope feels like. I am more fired up than ever to push forward to the finish line. I hope you’ll join us.

Response to Amy Galey’s ongoing baseless attacks.
JD Wooten Responds
“The fact of the matter is that I bought a home using VA benefits afforded to veterans like myself, but I later decided to move to run for office after watching Republicans in Raleigh like Amy Galey refuse to stand up for hard-working families in Alamance and Guilford counties. Her shameful attack on VA benefits is an attack on all service members. She should be focused on bringing our community together, not tearing it apart.” Full Response HERE

Reason 70 to Flip NC
70. TO EXPAND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES
Since seizing control of the NCGA, Republicans have enacted large funding cuts for mental health services, including over $100 million per year from regional mental health facilities. Cutting funding for mental health services is both cruel and counterproductive, leading to much larger future health care costs.

Wondering what you can do to help ensure local elections meet the challenges of this health crisis?
Alamance County needs election workers for the 2020 Elections!
Check this link to the Alamance County Election Official Application. We especially need elections workers during the 17-day early voting period. We have a new early voting location at the Elmira Community Center in Burlington and we have newly expanded weekend voting, including Sunday voting. This means we need more elections workers than in the past. And the COVID virus has meant that many of our predominantly older elections workers who are more vulnerable have chosen not to return to work this year’s election.
You can also fill out the NC State Board of Elections Democracy Heroes form to be contacted by BOE staff: https://www.ncsbe.gov/get-involved
