89 Days Until Election Day

Our Representatives in the NC General Assembly

The two chambers of the NC General Assembly hold the power to make state laws on everything from voting maps to environmental decisions to how many North Carolinians receive health care. They also use your taxpayer dollars to set the state budget, including resources for everything from roads to schools. JD Wooten is our candidate for the NC State Senate.

JD Wooten for NC State Senate, 24

JD Wooten is an intellectual property attorney and former U.S. Air Force officer and engineer. He received his congressional nominations and appointment to the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2003.  While at the Academy, JD earned his parachute wings, commanded Cadet Squadron 40, raced for the USAFA Cycling Team, and studied aeronautical engineering.  He was a 2007 Rhodes Scholar nominee and recipient of the Gladys Noon Spellman Fellowship Award to attend the University of Maryland School of Public Policy.  At UMD he earned a Masters of Public Policy in International Security and Economic Policy.

While on active duty, JD first served as an engineer and program manager for the Situation Awareness Data Link, an air to ground radio system used extensively in close air support and homeland defense missions.  He later served as the Commander’s Action Officer to Lt. Gen. CR Davis, managing all communications on behalf of General Davis for his +9,000 person, $5 billion per year organization operating from 28 international locations.  JD also had the privilege to serve as Officer-in-Charge of the Patriot Honor Guard where he performed 108 military funerals and oversaw more than 1,200 funerals per year throughout New England.

After a decade of service, JD left active duty to attend Wake Forest University School of Law. Upon graduation, JD joined the intellectual property group at Womble Bond Dickinson where he helps clients secure and protect their creative rights through patents, trademarks, and copyrights.  JD’s primary focus is on patent and trademark litigation in federal courts.  JD’s family has called North Carolina home for over twenty generations, and they are proud to still call North Carolina home today.

Reason 89 to Flip NC

89. TO RESTORE THE EARNED-INCOME TAX CREDIT

The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) provides a tax credit for lower-income working families and was adopted on a bipartisan basis across the country as an alternative to welfare. In 2013, while simultaneously cutting taxes for corporations and the rich, the GOP-controlled legislature repealed NC’s EITC, making North Carolina the first state to do so in over 30 years. The NC Republican Party’s values and priorities could not be clearer.

Give Your Time at Election Time.

Wondering what you can do to help ensure local elections meet the challenges of this health crisis?

Finding election workers is always a challenge and in this election the civic-minded seniors that usually fill these positions should get to sit this one out if they have health concerns. Early Voting workers especially work long days and a couple of long weeks. So if you want more weekend hours for Alamance County voters, giving your time to staff those hours is a great way to help. Also, these are paid positions. More Information HERE
