The role of the Lt. Governor of North Carolina is unique in that it is the only elected office who works on both the executive and legislative level.
They assist the Governor in their constitutional duties and are next in line in succession to them. The Lt. Governor also:
- Serves as the President of the State Senate, and can cast tie-breaking votes
- Is a member of the Governor’s Council of State
- Is on the State Board of Education, NC Board of Community Colleges, and the Military Affairs Commission

It was learning from her parents the importance of public service and courage that serve as motivation today. Her mother stressed the importance of education and strength while her father was a living example of community leadership. With these roots, she brings a history of reverence, hope and accountability to public service.
Working her way through Howard University, she began a career dedicated to education, health, economics, youth development and political advocacy. Yvonne’s heart for public service includes twenty-five years dedicated to working as a state government employee. This life path is a direct link from a humble beginning of community awareness.

Wondering what you can do to help ensure local elections meet the challenges of this health crisis?
Finding election workers is always a challenge and in this election the civic-minded seniors that usually fill these positions should get to sit this one out if they have health concerns. Early Voting workers especially work long days and a couple of long weeks. So if you want more weekend hours for Alamance County voters, giving your time to staff those hours is a great way to help. Also, these are paid positions.

You can also call our local Board of Elections at (336)570-6755 and request that they send you an absentee ballot request form.
