Huge Proposed cuts to the Board of Elections budget

Board of Election budget cuts proposed by the county manager at last Monday’s County Commissioner meeting would be catastrophic! The county manager called for budget cuts of close to $725,000 to the Board of Election budget for this year.

  • We would likely lose all but the Graham Early Voting Site.
  • Weekend voting hours would be cut by half.
  • The non-permanent employee salary cuts would cause major problems processing voters at the polls and at the BOE office.
  • There would be cuts to funds for voting equipment maintenance and storage and  to computer leases.
  • Security for voting equipment storage sites and cybersecurity would both be compromised.
  • Printing for paper ballots and other elections needs would be incredibly underfunded.
  • Advertisement/voter education would be cut dramatically.
  • No funding for COVID prep at election sites or the coming surge in processing expenses for absentee ballots is even included.
