County Chair, Elaine Berry
I grew up on a tobacco farm in northern Orange County. We were sharecroppers till I wasabout 10 when we began buying our own farm.
Education: I worked hard to put myself through both undergrad and grad school. I got a BS in English from East Carolina, did graduate work at the University of MD and Loyola College, and got a MLA degree from Johns Hopkins.
Career: I taught English in high schools in Baltimore County for nearly 23 years before working in central office positions as Coordinator for Secondary English and Reading and as a grants coordinator for the school system.
Related Volunteer Experience: Since moving back to NC in 2009, I have done typical volunteer activities, such as Meals on Wheels, but after Trump was elected in 2016 I became politically active. In 2016-17, I led an Indivisible group and became an active member of the NAACP and ACDP. After campaign manager training through Lillian’s List, I began working as Erica McAdoo’s campaign manager. In March 2018, I was elected chair of ACDP, and I am serving as campaign manager for Ricky Hurtado.
